Elafonisi Excursion from Heraklion

This is an excursion to Elafonisi you do not want to miss!

Up to the south-westernmost point of the island, in one of the most spectacular and unexpected locations on the island is where we will spend the day. Elafonisi is a place of exceptional natural beauty, something between an island and a peninsula, as you have to walk through the sea to reach it.

Once occupied by pirates, today it is a very popular destination for day trippers who flood there to faraway lagoon, whilst having a Mediterranean holiday.
Elafonisi is a paradise on earth – a heaven of unparalleled beauty. It is covered with sand dunes, low trees, bushes, sand lilies and junipers. You can get there on foot from the beach by passing through shallow aquamarine and turquoise waters. The white and pink sand made of thousands of broken seashells, the limpid blue-green waters, the little coves and the secluded tiny beaches remind the travelers of a paradise lost.

Take a swim in the warm tropical waters and relax under the hot summer sun!

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience during our excursion to Elafonisi Island, we recommend bringing appropriate footwear for the beach and the sea, as well as sun protection and a hat to shield yourself from the sun’s rays. Don’t forget to pack your favorite pair of water shoes or sandals, as the island’s pink sand can get hot! Additionally, protecting your skin from the sun is crucial, so we suggest bringing a high SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day.

Preveli Tropical Beach

The beach of Preveli, also known as Lake Preveli or Phoenix, is located at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotikos Gorge, where the Grand River (Megalos Potamos) flows. It is certainly the most famous beach in South Crete, accepting thousands of visitors every summer. During the ‘60s and ‘70s, it was a favorite destination for the hippies.

On the banks of the Grand River there is a large colony of Theophrastus palm trees, which give the region a sense of a tropical landscape. This is the second largest palm forest of Crete, after the palm forest of Vai.

The river forms a small lake, 500 m long, before emptying into the sea. You can walk along the river, under the shade of palm trees, and start ascending in the beautiful canyon. At the exit of the river, a beautiful beach with pebbles and sand is formed.

Moreover, in the eastern part of the beach, there is a beautiful rock which looks like a heart. Here, you will have plenty of free time to enjoy swimming in the turquoise waters, to sunbathe under the warm sun and to explore this tropical and very unique landscape.

The bus will stop at a parking lot, the closest to the beach, where there is a path descending down to the beach.

The parking is located near towering vertical cliffs, where you can take some fantastic photos. To reach the beach walk the footpath (app. 300 stairs) that takes about 15 minutes.

After, approximately 4 hours of free time at the beach, the day will come to an end and we will make our way back to your hotels.

Imbros Gorge

Let’s escape to the wild nature and to the most mesmerizing places of Crete!

Delve into the beauty of the second most visited gorge on the island, Imbros Gorge.

Easier to walk than the renowned Samaria gorge, Imbros is equally captivating with its several narrow stony passages, the steep slopes and cliffs around, the shady trees that protect you from the scorching sun and the wild vegetation. The route is mostly descending but never steep and it takes only about two hours to walk, which it makes it ideal for families with children.

At the end of your hiking, find yourself at Komitades village, where you can enjoy your lunch or a refreshment drink, if you wish.

Afterwards, you will have more than an hour free time to enjoy the famous village of Sfakia, on the south coast of Chania. You can choose between quiet local beaches, several cafes or taverns and many picturesque points for unique photos in order to spend your own time at Sfakia before heading back to your bus with unforgettable memories.

Gramvousa, Balos Tour

An exquisite excursion is the one to Gramvousa and Balos. Driving to the west of the island, we make our first stop at Skaleta, near Rethymnon, where we have some time for coffee or breakfast. Then we head for Kissamos, where we set out for our trip.

Our stay on the ship until the first destination lasts an hour. The first thing we admire is a cave most likely an ancient shipyard. We also witness an impressive geological phenomenon; the simultaneous lifting and sinking of the two sides of the island, where its western side rises up to 6 – 9 meters above the sea level.

We disembark at the island of Gramvousa also known as the “pirates’ island”. The broader area of Gramvousa forms one of the most significant hydro-biotopes of the Eastern Mediterranean, since here we can encounter over 100 bird species and 400 plant species. You can admire the famous fortress of Gramvousa built by the Venetians in 1579 high on a rock and if you want, you can climb up to admire the magnificent view. After our exploration of the area, you have plenty of time to enjoy our swim at the gorgeous beach with the wonderful colors or have lunch aboard.
In the early afternoon, we head for the lagoon of Balos, one of the loveliest places in Greece.

The view of the lagoon is truly breathtaking and brings us in mind exotic beaches in the Caribbean. These app. 3 hours of solitude in such a paradise will surely be etched in your memory for ever!
